About Us

Welcome to Our Family’s Story

A Love Story Since 2016

Susan and I (Patrick) bought the historic Main Street Inn in 2016 — the same year we got married — and closed it for a full year to give it a proper renovation. We kept the building's original bones intact but replaced nearly all the furniture and repainted every surface, top to bottom. The goal was simple: preserve the Inn's 19th-century character while quietly updating it with the comfort and amenities today's guests expect.

Susan has practiced internal medicine and pulmonary disease in Ste. Genevieve for more than 30 years. I spent 40 years on the faculty at Loyola University Chicago's Stritch School of Medicine before retiring in 2020. Between the two of us, we've built a life they love in small-town Missouri — one that still leaves plenty of room for travel through Europe, especially trips back to Susan's native Ireland.

What Makes Us Special

Today, our family of businesses — Main Street Inn Bed & Breakfast, the Ste. Genevieve Antique Mall, and Ste. Genevieve RV Park — works together to offer visitors a complete, memorable experience in Missouri’s oldest permanent settlement.

Every one of our 10 guest rooms and suites has its own personality — antique furnishings, original art, luxurious bedding, and a private en-suite bath, all inside a beautifully preserved 19th-century building in the heart of downtown. Mornings start with a full, made-from-scratch breakfast featuring local ingredients, and evenings wind down with a wine and cheese reception where guests often end up trading stories with people they just met.

Inside the antique mall, you’ll also find PJ’s Bar & Coffee, a welcoming spot for specialty coffee, craft drinks, live music, and Wine Down Wednesdays — inspired by Patrick and Susan’s favorite pubs in Ireland.

Our Philosophy

We believe in preservation, passion, and community. Whether it’s restoring historic buildings, supporting independent vendors, or curating beautiful spaces filled with art and history, everything we do is rooted in a deep love for Ste. Genevieve and a desire to share its charm with visitors from around the world.

We want a stay at the Main Street Inn to feel less like checking into a hotel and more like being welcomed into a friend's home — one that happens to be filled with history, good art, and a genuinely comfortable bed. That means preserving what makes this 19th-century building special, but never at the expense of your comfort: every room is designed to be lived in, not just looked at.

Come Sit a While on Our Porch

We built this Inn to feel like a second home — one with better breakfast and a dog who's genuinely happy to see you. Come stay with us in Ste. Genevieve and let Patrick, Susan, and Barney take it from here.
