Relax on the Porch

Susan and I (Patrick) bought the historic Main Street Inn in 2016 — the same year we got married — and closed it for a full year to give it a proper renovation. We kept the building's original bones intact but replaced nearly all the furniture and repainted every surface, top to bottom. The goal was simple: preserve the Inn's 19th-century character while quietly updating it with the comfort and amenities today's guests expect.
Susan has practiced internal medicine and pulmonary disease in Ste. Genevieve for more than 30 years. I spent 40 years on the faculty at Loyola University Chicago's Stritch School of Medicine before retiring in 2020. Between the two of us, we've built a life we love in small-town Missouri — one that still leaves plenty of room for travel through Europe, especially trips back to Susan's native Ireland.

Ste. Genevieve
A historic destination and vibrant community, Ste. Genevieve is recognized as the oldest permanent settlement in the state of Missouri. French colonists living in the Illinois territory on the east side of the Mississippi crossed the river in 1735 and built homes along the fertile river bottom. Many of these homes from the late 1700s have been preserved. The National Park Service recognized the significance of these structures and have established the Saint Genevieve National Historic Park. All of these homes are within a short walking distance of our Inn.
